Appraising jewelry, where to go, what to expect, how much does it cost?
I have an antique ring given to me and would like to get it insured.
I wanted to know how much it costs to get jewelry appraised and what to expect from a reputable place.
Also, where do I look for something like that?
It is a platinum ring, but the metal is very ornate, almost like lattice all over the ring. It has a large and uniquely shaped diamond in the center with large bagette chips placed around the center. Insurance for a ring?
For my wedding ring, my (now) husband got me a gorgeous antique European cut diamond in platinum ring (which means the cut is designed to sparkle best in low/dim/candle light since they didn’t have electricity back then lol).
He got it from a private antique dealer, so unlike chain jewelry stores, they don’t provide insurance for their jewelry. The ring is 130 years old and it comes with a certificate and everything to verify it’s authenticity – and before buying it, my husband got it independently appraised and checked out.
