How do you feel about diamonds as a tradition for engagement rings?

I don’t think people realize that a diamond engagement ring wasn’t a tradition until the early 1900′s invented by a world wide jewelry producer called "DeBeers." You may have heard of them? Although diamonds had been given in the past, it wasn’t until DeBeers got a hold of the market that now more then 90% of women expect diamonds. Now it’s supposed "custom" or "tradition" and women EXPECT a diamond ring! I have a hard time wearing something on my finger that supposedly symbolizes love that was more of a marketing invention.

Buying antique engagement ring and wedding band?

So my boyfriend and I went shopping and we found in an antique store a .78 carat european cut engagement ring with side stones and a matching wedding band. It was made in the 1930′s.

I love it and it fit perfectly, size 6 all other jewelry stores had rings in size 7 and would have to be refitted. It is way below his budget for an engagement ring and it is the whole engagement and wedding set.
