How do you feel about diamonds as a tradition for engagement rings?
I don’t think people realize that a diamond engagement ring wasn’t a tradition until the early 1900′s invented by a world wide jewelry producer called "DeBeers." You may have heard of them? Although diamonds had been given in the past, it wasn’t until DeBeers got a hold of the market that now more then 90% of women expect diamonds. Now it’s supposed "custom" or "tradition" and women EXPECT a diamond ring! I have a hard time wearing something on my finger that supposedly symbolizes love that was more of a marketing invention.

I know there are loads of questions with these kinds of ideas but I need a memorable present. Unfortunately he bought me a really lovely antique ring and I can’t think of anything that I could buy him that he could keep forever. He has a watch, is not really a jewellery kind of guy and we have been a way a lot together. I am willing to spend around 100 – 150 pounds so would appreciate any help!
