What Do Date Letters Mean?

What Do Date Letter Hallmarks Mean Question: I have been given a ring that has the letters JH 9CT inside it.

Miller\'s: Silver & Sheffield Plate Marks: Pocket Fact File (Miller\'s Pocket Fact File)
Miller’s: Silver & Sheffield Plate Marks: Pocket Fact File (Miller’s Pocket Fact File)

Price: $4.73

The ring looks a silver colour.

What do these letters mean?

Answer: G’day Sue and many thanks for your query.

The JH is simply the Maker’s Mark. Sometimes it can indicate a Store or Design identification but mainly it is just the Maker leaving some form of identification on their jewelry.

The 9ct means the item is 9 carat (Karat) gold, but remember it can be WHITE gold, because they would add more Nickel into the alloy mix to get that color.

You might also like to add this query to my blog at http://how2valuejewelry.com/ as other may have had a similar problem. Can’t hurt anyway and who knows what answers you may get.

Hope this helps…
