Engraved markings on estate gold locket
Question: Hello, I have purchased an estate piece, an engraved 1 inch round gold locket with an intricate design on the front with inset tiny jet stones.
On the back is an engraved letter initial.
My question concerns the marks on the inside of the locket.
When opened, the left side shows an engraved figural bee (insect) with the letters RBM over the top, and underneath ATRICE 1874.
The edge of the opposite side is marked as PAT. FEB. 10-03.
If you have any information concerning the bee and the other marks, I would be very grateful as I have not been able to find any reference to them.
Thank you so much.
Answer: G'day and many thanks for your query
I cannot find anything about these marks either so my best guess is all I can provide.
The Bee and RBM are the Maker's Marks or Store Name but as there is NO World registry of Maker's marks it means that basically anyone - anywhere - can make and stamp their jewelry with whatever mark they want.

I also have a locket like that, but does not have pat 10-03. Mine opens from the top. Mine was my grandmothers who had gotten it from her father in 1916, she was 13 years old when she got it for a birthday gift. She lived in central Oklahoma area at the time.

Just happened to find the same locket in an old victorian home rbm atrice 1874 with a bee in the middle. it is in fair condition and seems to be made of filled gold . where and how much money will this item bring.

Vicki: I also live in central OK and my daughter was given a locket that matches that description. It opens from the top, and upon doing so I found a yellowed paper in the top portion with the bee insignia, the letters R. B. M across the top, 18 on one side of the bee and 74 on the other side of the bee, and “Atrice” below it.
There is a picture in the locket of a young, girl. There is a small piece of turqoise inset in the center of the cover and five small “diamonds” or clear stones inset around the edges of the cover. The turqoise is the center of an engraved flower. I’m afraid to remove the paper or the picture to see if there is any writing. Have you had any luck?

The last note from “Vicki” closely matches an item I hold. My locket is slightly larger, 1.5″, on a 20″ chain. Early family also was from the Oklahoma territory. There are some 14 “stones” on the front. There are 7 in an arch above a flower like central design , one in the flower center and a grouping of three on each side of the center design, radiating outward.
The back inside bears the “Pat 10-03″ stamp. Has anyone established an approximate value?
