Many clients in the past have enjoyed or FREE Hallmarking Course which helped in identifying and understanding how British Hallmarks Work.
After the last kind HACKER attacked our site (Grrrr) - the Hallmarking Course was lost - probably stolen - but the good news is - it’s back (Thank God for Backups) although it did take several weeks to find them - Phew!

G’Day David
Thank you for sending me your informative reports on hallmarking. I have bought and sold antique jewelry for years, and it’s good and useful information.
Nice of you to supply it to those of us interested!

G’day all, and may I simply apologize for the mess on this site. You see some great Hackers attacked the Servers and they all went down.
In my case, 13 domains have been lost.
This is a lot of work for us, and we are sorry to have to disappoint you.
If you came here for the FREE Hallmarking Course - then please be aware it WILL be back up within the next couple of days. Until then - thank you for your patience - and as for the Hackers…
Let’s not go there, before I lose my cool

The gemstone for the month of September is the Sapphire (aren’t you lucky).
Not only do you get the best gemstone after Diamond but you also get all those Colors too.
Colored Gemstones, 1st Edition: The Antoinette Matlins Buying Guide–How to Select, Buy, Care for & Enjoy Sapphires, Emeralds, Rubies, and Other Colored Gemstones with Confidence and Knowledge
Price: $16.93 USD
But wait. I hear you say, Sapphires are blue….
But they are also colorless, pink, orange, yellow, green and purple so there should be something there for everyone.
If you wanted to cheat, you could also have ruby (if it’s red, it is a ruby, if it’s blue it is called a sapphire) as they are both the same gemstone.
The second gemstone for this month is the lovely Lapis Lazuli with its usual spotted or flecked surface. Most commonly seen as strings of beads, it was a favorite with Victorian Jewelers.
Just gotta love that…
August is the Month for Peridot.
This beautiful apple green gemstone was often called Olivine because of its Olive Color, and sometimes Chrysolite.
Arizona Highways, February 1975 (Peridot and Other Gems) (Vol. 51, No. 2)
Lowest used price: $15.00
The name Peridot comes from the Greek language with some of the most important deposits found in the Red Sea area from the Volcanic Isle of St John where they have been mined for over 3500 years.
We also have some in Australia (Queensland of course) which is usually set in Gold.
Interestingly there were some Peridots discovered from a Meteorite which fell to earth in 1749. Not-a-lot of people know that!
The Victorians loved to use this gemstone set with seed pearls. You may find it in old brooches and pendants. It is a very romantic stone.
Sapphire Ring Hallmarking Question: I have a sapphire and diamond white gold ring with stamps galore that puzzle me:

Rubies & Sapphires (Fred Ward Gem Book Series)
Price: US$14.20
First a Single lightly stamped Z with no borders.
The Z is followed by a substantial space and then a series of hallmarks:
W.E.G. (square border); then all with clipped corners on the squares, a crown, 750, anchor, and what looks like a date stamp that I cannot read.
Following all that is lightly stamped (without borders) K3474.
Now if you flip the ring over it is stamped 18CT.
Other than the fact that this piece has British hallmarks with the Birmingham Assay office, can you tell me more?

What Is The Percent Of Silver Question: Hi, I recently purchased a card holder by reed & barton.

Silver Boxes
Price: $19.49
On the back it said reed & barton 689.
What does the 689 mean in relatio to 925.
Is it 68.9% silver as 925 is 92.5% silver. I am not sure.
And also does it mean that the value is inferior to 925?
thanks Bob
